Snetterton 200 and the 3rd round of the 2016 RST Aprilia Challenge (Superteens.)
Saturday was a test day and it was clear that the pace at the front was going to be extremely quick, so after a couple of sessions we had a team meeting to discuss strategy for the weekend given we didn’t have quite the right gearing for the bike which meant Connor would have to pull some audacious moves to stay with the leaders and not loose the tow. With a strategy in place it was off to qualifying Saturday morning…
4th – 1:31.358′
We already knew on from the practice sessions on Saturday that we were slightly off the pace of the front so it was target achieved qualifying 4th with Connors personal best for the circuit of a 1min31.358 Happy team and looking forward to the race.
2nd – 1:30.109′ (fastest lap)
This is when the plan had to work and Connor rode an awesome race diving up the inside and round the outside at every opportunity, so as to not loose the tow down the straights and it was precisely what he needed to do, leading out of the last corner on the start finish straight almost every lap but just got pipped to the line by 0.067 of a second to finish second and set the fastest lap of the race of a 1min 30.109, another personal best for Con and a lot more than we thought the bike capable of.
He’s back “THE MACHINE” is back!!
4th – 1:30.161′
After the brilliant first race we were looking forward to the second, again we knew it would be tough for Con as the pace would only get quicker, which it did and a lot more frantic out on circuit, with Connors audacious moves around the outside round Coram and up the inside out braking into Murrays every lap, it was only a matter of time till one of the riders closed the door slightly on the way into Murrays and braked just as late as Con meaning he lost the front but saved it and managed to finish the race in 4th, Connor was dissatisfied with that but the team feel he did a fantastic job of holding on for as long as he did as we knew his bike was just not capable of getting into the 1min29 bracket with the wrong gearing.
3rd – 1:30.640′
Monday morning and over night we had worked on the bike trying to find a little bit more speed in the bike so made a few little changes and a VERY kind Will Hodgson lent us the right gearing for our bike, so we were feeling confident, unfortunately a bit of a poor start and the wind direction changing, meant Connor was in 3rd off the line and try as he might he was unable to take the fight to the 2 in front finishing 1.6 seconds off second place, happy to be back on the podium again tho.
2nd – 1″31.234′
Another awesome, if slightly disappointing race… More or less every lap Connor would exit the last chicane in front only to be out dragged down the straight but hard work and determination prevailed with him creating about a half second lead to second as they were closing in on the back markers and being caught themselves by the faster 450GP bikes causing a bit of a mele and with Con being held up slightly and Rhys putting in a stunning last lap Con yet again JUST got pipped to the line again by 0.095 of a second.
A fantastic weekend for CRT Racing
And extremely proud of Connor given the start of the season we’ve had, the precision, pace and consistency he’s achieved this weekend is second to none!!! Well done Connor.
None of this would be possible with out the help and support of a lot of people, supporters, family and friends so it’s with a grateful heart we, Connor, Caitlyn and myself say THANK YOU
